IoU is a small app for tracking who owes whom between two people on a trip. This policy explains what it stores, where, and who can see it. It is written to be read, not to be waved at lawyers.
Only what you type into it:
The app does not ask for or collect your email, phone number, contacts, location, photos, or any device identifier for advertising. There is no sign-up form and no account to create.
Everything lives on your phone. When you link with another person, entries are also
synced through Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Anonymous Authentication) so both
phones can stay in step. That data is stored on Google servers in the European Union
(europe-west3, Frankfurt). Each phone is identified only by an anonymous
Firebase ID that is not tied to any personal account.
A ledger is readable only by the two phones that share it, enforced by server-side security rules. Nobody else — including us — can read your entries through the app. Google processes and stores the data on our behalf as our infrastructure provider, under Google's privacy terms.
To find and fix bugs, the app uses Google Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes, it sends an anonymous report — the technical stack trace, your device model and Android version, and a random installation identifier that is not linked to you or to your entries. It does not send your amounts, notes, or names. This is used only to make the app more stable.
Deleting a ledger removes it and all its entries from your phone. If the ledger was shared, your copy is removed and you leave the shared record; the other person keeps theirs. Uninstalling the app removes all local data. To have a shared record removed from the server entirely, both people should delete it, or contact us at the address below.
IoU is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it.
